Retention and deletion
Each project keeps events for a period you choose, and Eventfox deletes older ones every night. You can also delete events, one visitor's events, or a whole project yourself.
Data retention
In Settings → Privacy → Data retention, choose 30 days, 90 days, 13 months (the default) or Forever. Every night at 03:00 UTC Eventfox deletes the project's events older than the period, in small batches so the database stays responsive. Shortening the period asks for confirmation and tells you how many events will be deleted that night.
Deleting data
All of these are under Settings → Danger zone, for admins only. You type the project's name to confirm.
- Delete events removes all of a project's events, or only those older than 30 or 90 days.
- Delete project removes the project from the list and stops its public key at once. Its events, funnels and settings are removed in the background.
- One visitor, for example when someone asks you to delete their data: in Events, open one of their events and copy the visitor ID, then run the
delete-visitorcommand (see Command line). In Standard mode a visitor ID stays the same across visits, so this removes all of their events in that project. In Privacy mode there is no lasting ID, so there is nothing to look up.
Backups are yours
Deleted data is gone: Eventfox keeps no backup or recycle bin. If you or your database provider keep backups, deleted events remain in them until they expire, so set their lifetime to match your retention.
