Eventfox compared with Umami, Plausible and Matomo

Eventfox is the only one of the four that lets you choose Privacy or Standard mode for each project, and choose exactly what Standard mode stores. It includes funnels, runs in its own schema inside a Postgres database you already have, and Team and Business plans come with email support. Umami is the closest alternative, but keeps email reports and session replay for its cloud.

This page compares the self-hosted versions only. Checked 12 October 2026.

Choosing

Which one should you pick?

An honest answer for each, so you can decide quickly.

Eventfox or Umami?

Choose Umami if you only need page counts and a few reports, and you're happy with one fixed privacy setting for every site.

Choose Eventfox if you want to choose the privacy level per project, or want to share a Postgres database you already run. Email reports and session replay are on the Eventfox roadmap.

Eventfox or Plausible CE?

Choose Plausible CE if you want a very simple dashboard and are comfortable running ClickHouse alongside Postgres.

Choose Eventfox if you need funnels, which Plausible's self-hosted edition leaves out, or want a lighter setup with Postgres only.

Eventfox or Matomo?

Choose Matomo if you need the widest set of features and reports and will pay for plugins, and you already run PHP and MySQL.

Choose Eventfox if you want a modern, faster setup on Postgres with funnels included, and a privacy mode that needs no extra configuration.

What about their hosted versions?

Umami, Plausible and Matomo also sell hosted cloud plans, where your data lives on their servers. Eventfox doesn't. You always run it yourself, so your data stays in your database.

Questions

Comparison questions

Which is the best self-hosted alternative to Google Analytics?

It depends on what you need. Eventfox suits teams who want product analytics (events and funnels) and a choice of privacy level per project. Umami suits people who want simple, free page counts. Matomo suits people who want the most features and don't mind MySQL and paid plugins.

Is Eventfox open source?

No. Eventfox's code isn't published. It's free for hobby sites, and anything that earns money needs a Pro, Team or Business licence. The browser tracking script is MIT-licensed. Umami (MIT), Plausible CE (AGPL) and Matomo (GPL) are open source.

Can I move from Umami or Plausible to Eventfox?

Not automatically. There is no importer yet, but you can run both side by side while you switch, and Eventfox only counts events from the day you add its script.
