Eventfox features

Eventfox records page views and custom events, builds funnels and sessions, and lets you choose for every project how much it stores. It runs on your own server, in your own Postgres.

The privacy switch

Two modes, chosen per project

Most analytics tools make one choice for you. Eventfox lets each project run in Standard or Privacy mode, and it drops anything a mode doesn't allow before it reaches the database.

Standard mode Standard

The fullest picture. Unique and returning visitors, city-level location and browser versions. Use it for signed-in apps, or sites where visitors have given consent.

Privacy mode Privacy

No IP addresses, no cookies, nothing stored on the visitor's device. Counts sessions instead of people and shows country only. In most cases you won't need a cookie banner.

What each mode stores. Whether you need a cookie banner depends on your site and your country's rules; check the guidance where you are.

Standard mode, set the way you want it

Standard doesn't have to mean everything. Each project has its own switches, so you keep exactly what you need and drop the rest before it's stored. Privacy mode simply turns them all off.

  • Store IP addresses
  • City-level location
  • Browser and system versions
  • Recognise returning visitors
  • Remove email addresses from events
  • Session replay Planned

Why Eventfox

What you get here that the free alternatives keep back

Other self-hosted tools are free, then keep their best features for their own paid cloud. Eventfox gives self-hosters the whole product.

Umami, Plausible: one fixed setting

You decide what's collected

Privacy or Standard mode per project, with switches for IP addresses, city, versions and returning visitors. Change your mind later without reinstalling.

Plausible CE: not included

Funnels for everyone

See where people drop off between steps. Plausible's free self-hosted version leaves funnels and journeys out.

Umami: cloud only

Email reports and alerts on your own server Planned

A weekly summary and a heads-up when traffic drops, sent from your install. Umami only offers these on its cloud.

Umami: cloud Business plan only

Session replay you host yourself Planned

Watch how visitors use a page, in Standard mode only, off until you turn it on, with typed text masked.

Others: a separate database

Fits beside your other apps

Eventfox lives in its own schema inside a Postgres you already run, including Supabase, and never touches anything else.

Free alternatives: community forums only

A person to email

Team and Business plans come with email support from the people who build Eventfox.

Install

Running in about ten minutes

  1. Rent a small server or use one you already have. Anything that runs Docker will do.
  2. Start Eventfox. The all-in-one setup includes its own database and free HTTPS.
  3. Add one script tag to your site, and events appear within seconds.

Already have Postgres, including Supabase? Eventfox can use it, in its own schema. Read the install guide.

# On your server
$ mkdir eventfox && cd eventfox
$ curl -fsSLO https://eventfox.dev/install/docker-compose.yml
$ curl -fsSL https://eventfox.dev/install/env.example -o .env
$ docker compose up -d

# On your site
<script defer src="https://stats.example.com/ef.js"
        data-key="pk_live_…"></script>
